Global Humanitarian Mission is heeding the urgent call from CEPUDO, and seeks your partnership in bringing basic healthcare services to desperately poor families in rural Honduras.
In response to the obvious need, GHM is establishing this project that will benefit about 1,500 residents from El Coyol and the surrounding communities of Zincuya, Potrerillos, Las Tunitas, Pataste, and Paňasquito.
The local municipality has committed to setting aside funds for a medical staff and for the clinic’s upkeep. Services at the clinic will include general medical consultations, care for chronic degenerative diseases, infectious respiratory and digestive illnesses, as well as pre- and post-natal care.

This is the way of life for almost 50% of Hondurans who live below the poverty line, on less than $2/day. Most families can only afford to eat twice a day. The situation was further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and hurricanes Eta and Iota. They live in constant fear that their fragile homes will not survive another storm. Not only do they suffer leaks and dirt floors that turn to mud in wet weather, But they are subject to Chagas disease – And likely heart failure, From the disease-carrying mosquito.

Since many communities do not have a water distribution system, the lack of access to clean water is a significant problem for the poor in Honduras. They are forced to rely on surface water sources such as rivers and streams, which are shared by animals, and are likely contaminated and unreliable.

Bordering Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua, Honduras is one of the poorest Spanish-speaking countries in the Western Hemisphere. Nearly 65% of Honduras’ population of approximately 9 million people live in poverty.
Honduras has the highest income inequality of all of Latin America. Approximately 9.4% of the 9.2 million people in the country are unemployed. Almost 49 percent of the Honduran population lives below the poverty line, existing on less than $2 per day.
Unfortunately, this set of circumstances was only exacerbated by the onset of COVID-19, followed by
hurricanes Eta and Iota, which left widespread devastating effects, and the country has not been able to
rebound since.
