Delivering Sustainable Income Improvements to Smallholder Farmers
Gang violence and natural disasters plague the smallest Central American Country, El Salvador, leading to widespread economic insecurity and displacement. At least 840,000 were reported to be food-insecure in 2021. Many smallholder farmers fall into this category, with average land sizes less than three acres and earning only $4.61 per day (below the global poverty line).
Smallholder farmers in El Salvador struggle to provide for their families due to the low productivity of their fields and their inability to access stable markets that pay a fair price for their hard-earned harvest.
Established in 2014, Acceso has become El Salvador’s leading smallholder sourcing social-enterprise. It has generated a cumulative income of $40 million for farmers and delivered life-changing and sustainable income improvements to 3,900 farmers and fishers in 2022.
