Mercy

Mercy is something we often talk about – but how often do we stop to truly reflect on what it means?

This morning, I reflected on the blessings behind us, the blessings here today and the blessings in the future. Acts of kindness, love, loyalty, forgiveness were just some of the things that came to mind. Gratitude, extreme thankfulness to God for all things. In my view, none of these blessings would be possible if it weren’t for God, who provides everything. Without His love, His mercy, His grace, well, no doubt, that would be unimaginable.

If You Had Told Me…

If you had told me years ago that I would be writing about humanitarian work for International Women’s Day, I probably would have laughed and said, “You clearly don’t know me.” I’m not a doctor. I’m not a field worker trekking through remote villages with a backpack and a satellite phone. I’m just… me. A woman trying to do her best. A mom. Someone who somehow always has a craft project going. A parish volunteer who has learned that saying “yes” once at church can very quickly turn into three committees and a WhatsApp group that never sleeps.

Valentine’s Day: More Than Chocolates and Roses

It’s February. Valentine’s Day looms. The season of love.
I grab a trolley and enter the store; its windows plastered with pink and red hearts. My senses are immediately overwhelmed as I dodge curling ribbons hanging from helium balloons near the ceiling. Shelves overflow with chocolates of every description, and the aisles are crowded with buckets of red roses and every imaginable shade of pink.

The Walk for Water: A Story of Struggle, Survival, and Hope

I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

In the dry, dusty heat of rural Kenya, I watched young girls—some no older than eight or nine—make the daily walk for water. Miles each way. Barefoot. Exposed. Vulnerable. Their small frames balancing heavy jugs on their heads, all for the chance to bring back enough water to drink, to cook, to clean.

But what shook me most wasn’t just the distance or the weight. It was the danger.

Where the Pope’s Smile Led Me

In the heart of Vatican City, inside the solemn expanse of Pope Paul VI Hall, I met Pope Francis.

He didn’t say a word. He didn’t need to.

His warm smile radiated the same compassion that has marked his papacy from the beginning. As I held his hand in both of mine, I said, “God bless you. I am praying for you.” That moment, quiet and brief as it was, became a turning point in my life.
