Walking Alongside Smallholder Farmers

According to the World Bank, Colombia is classified as a Middle-Income Country. However, a civil war lasting over 50 years destabilized many rural communities and for those living in these post-conflict areas, 57% live under the poverty line, 87% don’t have secure land rights, and 68% of children do not attend school. Colombian smallholder farmers in particular, struggle to provide for their families due to the low productivity of their fields and their inability to access stable, legal, markets that pay a fair price for their hard-earned harvests. The temptation to cultivate illicit crops is strong because of the high demand and lack of alternative opportunities. Global Humanitarian Mission has partnered with Acceso to provide an attractive alternative to illicit farming by providing legal and reliable access to commercial markets so that farmers can safely and proudly provide for their families.
